Carrying the Olympic Torch

Submissions Deadline has passed.

It is an exciting time as we get closer and closer to the Winter Olympics! The Olympic torch has started its long journey across Canada, carried proudly by Canadians from all over the country. Let’s celebrate this amazing event on vvvillage.org by sending in your Olympic torch writing. This month you could win some really cool Olympic prizes!

• Do you know someone who has already carried the torch? Or maybe someone who will be carrying it soon?
  • Interview that person about what it was like or what he or she thinks it will be like. Make up some questions, interview the person and then act like a reporter and report what you found out.
• Do you feel creative? Make up a story that features the Olympic torch.
  • The Day the Torch Went Out
  • The Case of the Missing Torch
  • Want a real challenge? Write your story from the torch’s perspective!
• Do some internet research on the Olympic torch and write a short report.
  • What does the torch represent?
  • Where exactly will it be carried in Canada?
  • How are torch bearers selected?
  • Would you like to have carried the torch?
• Some people like the way our torch looks, others think it should look different. Design your version of the perfect Olympic torch.
  • What would it look like? What special features would it have?

You can use whatever technology you would like – word processing documents, PowerPoint presentations and so on – it just have to be a piece of writing.
