Announcement of an online journalism 11/12 credit course with special consideration for SET-BC students

Oct 2008,

There is still room for SET-BC students to register!  More info here.

SET-BC has created a student website called Virtual Voices Village (www.vvvillage.org.)  The website is a place for BC students with disabilities to tell their own stories, to engage in their communities and to build important communication skills.  With support from SET-BC, 2010 Legacies Now and 3M, an online journalism course has been prepared and is being delivered by the EBUS Academy (www.ebus.ca). The course began in September of this year, but there is still room for additional SET-BC registrants.  This is a great opportunity for all students from around the province to gain valuable reporting skills and will complement the Virtual Voices Village website as students may submit their stories for publication on the site.  Students who have completed the course may have the opportunity to showcase their newly acquired skills by attending and reporting on the 2010 Olympic or Paralympic Winter Games!  The application details for this opportunity will be sent out to all students taking part in the course in the New Year.

Click here for details of the course, registration instructions and an application form.

We encourage SET-BC students interested in journalism or communication skills to register for this course as soon as possible.  This is a four credit grade 11 and 12 course, but is available to students in Grade 10 who have completed English 10.  Students may begin the course at any time during the year and work at their own pace, but must finish by June of 2009.
The course consists of five exploration units which include:
