The Cancer Head-Shave

By Steven Cayer

Steven before and after shot

It was the day of the Cancer Head-Shave at my high-school, Burnaby Mountain Secondary School. I was going to get my head shaved for cancer. The main reason for this is because my grandfather died of cancer.

I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was going up first for some reason I will never fathom. It only took five minutes but, it felt like five days. During the whole process of shaving, a crowd started to slowly form. I’ve always had stage fright but this was insane! The worst part was that I couldn’t move anywhere or I’d probably get cut! The best part was the moment my hair was all gone. I just zoomed out of there to the first room with a mirror to see my creation/destruction. To my surprise, it looked pretty sweet! My parents told me not to get my head shaved because apparently I have a small bump on my head. When I got home my parents were not surprised because I had told them I was going to anyway. If they were angry, they couldn’t have done anything about it anyway. My other reason was because wanted to give some money for cancer research. I donated sixty bucks! All in all, it was a very memorable experience that I hope to do again next year.
